BE Styled

Barbara Burton and Elena Haley are the B and E in BE Styled. Together, they’re making over Coronado, one bangle bracelet and manicured fingernail at a time

Interview by San Diego Magazine, August 2012

Where did the idea for BE Styled come from? We met when our kids attended the same preschool in Coronado. We thought it could be fun to co-host a “mommy makeover” party. So we began buying up clothing from our favorite brands at closeout prices and putting them together in cute, easy-to-wear outfits. We rounded it out with brow and lip waxing, as well as makeup application by local professionals. The idea took off and soon we were invited to take our concept to other venues, such as a pop-up boutiques and styling clinics. The boutique opened the following year.
Do friendship and business mix well in this case? Every once in a while, we need to have “discussions” about our spending. But other than that, we respect each other and the importance of staying focused on the success of our business.
You recently opened a nail salon, BE Polished, next door to BE Styled. Nails are a big part of fashion. Hanging out with girlfriends with a glass of champagne or hot tea while having these things done is our type of perfect pampering. Pedicures are done on comfy lounge-style sofas, with
copper bowls.
